CU will never be shut for campus violence: VC
Chittagong University (CU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Abu Yousuf has said the top priority of his administration is to maintain a congenial atmosphere on the campus and make the university a centre of academic excellence and research.
“We want to create a positive image of the university that was mired in the past and to achieve that objective a peaceful coexistence among the student organisations is a must,” the newly appointed VC said at a view exchange meeting with senior journalists yesterday.
Prof Yousuf said one of his top priorities is to keep the academic activities on and bring down the incidents of clash among the student bodies at its minimum level.
“We won't bow down to any pressure and the CU would never be closed in the face of any untoward incident on the campus,” he said.
The VC also talked about holding of election to Chittagong University Central Students Union (CUCSU), building of a city centre and different development plans.
On CUCSU polls, he said, “The atmosphere is not right now as the student organisations lack tolerance. We may go for holding the long-overdue CUCSU polls once a favourable situation is created.”
