Zia earns six points
Grand Master Ziaur Rahman earned six points after 10 rounds in the 8th Asian Continental Chess Championship Open Section, qualifying for the World Cup 2009 at Subic Freeport in Olongapo City, Philippines yesterday.
In the tenth round, Zia lost against GM Yu Shaoteng of China.
GM Niaz Murshed earned 5½ points also after 10 rounds. He lost to GM Parimarjan Negi of India.
GM Enamul Hossain Rajib got 5 points and Fide Master Abu Sufian Shakil earned 4 points after the 10th round where Razib beat Garma Edgardo of Philippines and Shakil drew with IM Sadorra Julio Catalino of Philippines.
GM Surya Shekhar Ganguly of India and GM Zhou Weiqi of China are jointly leading the points table with 7½ points each.
In the women's section Shamima Akter Liza earned 3½ points out of 10 games. In the 10th round Liza drew with Docena Jedara of Philippines.
