All future polls to be held in free, fair manner: CA
Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday said he wants to see that the next general elections and all other future polls in Bangladesh be held in a free, fair and credible manner.
"There'll be a set of strong institutions with the capacity to ensure better governance and speed up the economy to alleviate poverty in Bangladesh," he said in reply to a question from the newly appointed ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Bea ten Tusscher, as the latter paid a courtesy call on him at his office.
Terming the Netherlands as an important development partner of Bangladesh, Fakhruddin said the existing good relations between the two countries could further be improved, particularly in terms of trade and commerce.
He said Dutch investors could invest in Bangladesh making use of a highly favourbale atmosphere and incentives offered by the government for foreign businessmen.
The CA briefed the new ambassador on his government's various measures, including reforms, combating corruption, institutional capacity building and preparation for the next general elections.
The Dutch envoy said her country not only wants to continue to be a development partner of Bangladesh but also likes to work on economic sectors and share its experiences.
Tusscher termed the separation of the judiciary from the executive as a milestone and highly praised the Election Commission's bid to register around 90 million voters in a short time.
On health and education, the ambassador said they have started dialogue with the ministries concerned to find out how the Netherlands could help in education and healthcare.
Secretary to the Chief Adviser's Office Kazi M Aminul Islam and the CA's Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim were also present at the meeting.
