Renewable energy issue discussed
Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni held a meeting with Environment and Water Minister of the United Arab Emirates Rashed Ahmed Bin Fahad on Tuesday discussing whole gamut of bilateral relations with special focus on manpower and cooperation in renewable energy sector.
The UAE minister sought Bangladesh's support to host headquarters of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in the UAE city of Mazdar. He said IRENA is an international body having more than 70 members.
“Bangladesh supports the theme of the IRENA. Our country is committed to the progress in introducing renewable energy, which holds a bright prospect for Bangladesh. So, Bangladesh's membership to the IRENA is being actively pursued,” Dipu Moni said.
She said Bangladesh was going to be one of the worst victims of climate change. She said climatic pattern had been changing here with massive natural disasters including flood, cyclone and drought almost every year.
She said UAE was the second largest destination for workers from Bangladesh. She requested the UAE minister to employ professionals including doctors, engineers, bankers, accountants from Bangladesh.
Dipu Moni holds meet with Prof Gilbert
Earlier, Dipu Monu had a meeting with visiting Ugandan Vice President Prof Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya discussing entire range of bilateral relations.
After the meeting at the State Guest House Meghna, she said both Bangladesh and Uganda have similar problems of poverty, shortage of food and nutrition and similar effort might be made to address those issues.
