Regrettable
I feel pity for the government because the landslide victory has not made it magnanimous, instead it has become mean.
There are so many important issues to occupy all its attention, many problems to be redressed urgently.
The mystery of the Pilkhana tragedy has not been solved yet, the country is in the grip of severe power and water crisis, criminal activities have gone up, many educational institutions have been compelled to close down due to the clashes between BCL activists.
But instead of getting on these issues solely the government spent valuable time to take the decision to cancel the lease of Khaleda Zia's cantonment house and finally on April 8 2009, cancelled allotment of the house on Shaheed Mainul Road in Dhaka cantonment.
In response, the BNP declared countrywide protests. The common people will suffer due to the confrontation between the government and the opposition political parties. We are so unlucky.
The year 2009 did not augur well, from the very beginning unpleasant incidents started to happen which upset us. We urge the government not to make it more difficult for us through unnecessary decisions which will lead to unrest and in no way will help the government.
So, for the sake of the country and its people the government must refrain from taking steps which will create disorder and hamper the progress of Bangladesh.
