BNP declares countrywide protests
Vehemently opposing the government's decision on cancellation of the allotment of the cantonment residence to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, main opposition BNP yesterday night announced a two-day protest programme.
BNP and its various front organisations will hold rallies and bring out procession today in the capital and divisional headquarters while the same programme will be observed at district and upazila levels on Saturday.
As part of the today's protest programme, the party will hold a rally at city's Muktangon at 3:00 pm.
The programme came following a meeting of party's senior leaders, including standing committee members, vice presidents, joint secretary-generals, party lawmakers and other leaders, at BNP chairperson's Gulshan Office with Khaleda Zia in the chair.
Party office secretary Rizvi Ahmed at a press briefing announced the programme held at the office.
“The decision [cancellation of allotment of the house] is nothing but a part of the conspiracy against nationalistic forces, which is a violation of human rights,” he said, adding the cabinet took the decision intentionally.
He said, “BNP and its front organizations will observe the programme to protest the conspiracy emerged to remove a 'helpless woman' from her house which was given from the people after heinous killing of 'incorruptible president' Ziaur Rahman.”
Meanwhile, BNP and its other wings brought out instant demonstrations in the city and different divisional and district headquarters protesting government's decision on cancellation of lease of Khaleda Zia's cantonment residence.
At a protest meeting held in front of party's central office, BNP leaders said the government's decision on the cantonment bungalow is an attempt to "political humiliation."
Juba Dal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal also brought out protest procession as news of the cabinet decision spread.
