Chartered Accountancy
Accounts are the language/blood of business. Not only the business houses, non-trading organisations also need to maintain accounts. But as the world of business and organisation is expanding and involving more and more complicated situations, the academic accountants (B.com, M.com) cannot cope with it.
So, there is a great demand for professional accountants like CA, CMA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA etc. At present, Bangladesh requires about 15,000 professional accountants but it has less than 1100 CAs and 900 CMAs.
CA is an honourable and well paid profession. Many students are now thinking of becoming a CA in future. But it is a matter of regret that here passing percentage is very low and hence after completing the CA course, most students become nervous and they have to repent for choosing this course, though a CA-CC (Course Completed) can have job with comparatively very low salary.
There are a good number of CC students who are over 40 years, even 50 years old but struggling for passing the exam. But is the CA course very tough?
As an old student (CC only) I can say that the course is not very hard but the system makes it the hardest. A student under a CA firm has to conduct audit and accounting works in different organisations. Like a service holder, he has to go to different cities for months many times.
During my course period (1981-84), I had to go to Khulna, Narsingdi, Bogra, Pathorghata, Golachipa, Barisal etc. So, a student does not get sufficient time for studies.
Besides, the authorities conduct very short tuition classes in the evening in which teachers cannot go deep into the subjects, rather they have to complete the syllabuses somehow.
The number of CA-CC is many times higher than qualified CAs but the process should be reversed. In this regard I would like to suggest conducting the CA classes round the year.
Along with the existing system, there should be a system where a student can attend classes and examinations and after passing the exams he/she will join the firms for attaining practical knowledge. If a student passes any paper, it must be exempted.
