The carnage and mayhem carried out at Pilkhana by the hoodlums on 25 Feb 09, taking the lives of a number brilliant officers of Bangladesh Army, will always remain a great stigma in the history of Bangladesh. What has not happened on that day-- brutal killing, indiscriminate looting and arson, and finally making good their escape unhurt and untouched.
By doing so, they not only befooled the 14 crore people of the country but also at the same time left the army and the govt. to face the acid test of unprecedented restraint and patience to be admired by all and sundry. Especially, my hats off to the members of the Army for display and demonstration of restraint that once more highlighted their respect for democracy and the superior authority. It was only at a stone's throw that the army had been positioned with all the capabilities to silence the insolent guns that had been taking away the lives of all those who had been the blood of their blood and flesh of their flesh.
The need of the hour is to make an impartial probe into the incident and make the facts public. The whole nation is now awake to know who had been behind these cold blooded murders and what had led to such brutal massacre. We have to detect and identify for good the enemies of our integrity, sovereignty and democracy. We have to decide once and for all about them and settle all scores accordingly. History repeats itself but in no way should we allow the recurrence of such nefarious activities in Bangladesh again.
The nation with the legacy of the great Liberation War cannot afford to withstand the repetition of such happenings. What is needed at the moment is the total unity of all concerned and we must stand as a rock against the evildoers. Let the punishment be not only exemplary but also an unprecedented one. We cannot allow anybody to tarnish the hard earned glorious image of our beloved nation.
We have a lot to learn from this unfortunate incident. We should be very particular to verify the antecedents of the individuals at the time of recruitment. We should be awake and guard against the evil designs of the enemies of our sovereignty.
Let there be unity amongst us. Let there be no black out of our conscience any more. Let there be light!
