Students of Jagannath University (JNU) blocked Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Shanir Akhra in the city for one hour and damaged six buses yesterday in protest against the attack on four students of the university by transport workers.
The workers of a 'seating' bus beat up the four students as they tried to forcibly get into the bus to go to Jatrabari from Shanir Akhra yesterday morning, locals said.
In protest, around 50 students of the university reached the spot in a double-decker bus of the university at about 2:30pm and vandalised vehicles on the highway, causing panic among transport workers and passengers.
They also blocked the road, disrupting traffic movement. As a result, several hundred vehicles remained stranded in the area for about one hour.
Protesting the vandalism by the students, transport workers also tried to block the road, but the police foiled their attempt.
None was arrested in this connection.
