Over 100 shops gutted in Bhola

At least 123 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Chawkbazar in Bhola district town Wednesday night.
Fifteen received burn injuries while dousing the fire.
Witnesses and local people said the fire originated from a shop at the Suta Patti at Chawkbazar near Zia Market at around 10:00pm. The fire quickly spread to the Zia Market and Chawkbazar.
A total of 23 shops, including cloth stores and stationery shops, were gutted in the fire while more than 100 other shops have been partially damaged.
Firemen from Bhola and Borhan Uddin brought the fire under control after two hours of efforts.
Municipal Mayor Golam Nabi Alamgir said 15 shops and eight godowns have been damaged completely and the extent of loss would stand at Tk 3.5 crore.
Awami League presidium member Tofail Ahmed, also a lawmaker, visited the spot yesterday.
BJP Chairman Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha visited the spot on Wednesday night.
