Folklore students block RU gate to press demand

Agitating students of folklore department of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday 'misbehaved' with a university teacher, assaulted an employee and blocked the administrative building's main gate demanding immediate placing of the department under social science faculty.
Earlier, the students staged a demonstration in the morning in front of the administrative building.
During the blockade, teachers, officials, employees and students were not allowed to enter the building for hours.
At a one stage, Prof Farukuzzaman, a teacher of history department and Chand, an employee of administrative building jointly tried to get into the building defying the blockade. At this stage, some students ran riot and misbehaved with the teacher and assaulted the employee.
Proctor Prof Zakaria rushed to the spot only to face a serious altercation with the students over the incident.
Later, the agitating students met VC Prof Abdus Sobhan at his office and placed their one-point demand.
The VC assured them of putting up the demand at the next faculty meeting.
The students at a meeting in front of the administrative building also threatened to launch a tougher agitation if their demand was not accepted in next faculty meeting.
Earlier, the students boycotted yesterday's classes and examinations.
