The Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express is convenient compared to bus travel---spacious with toilet and pantry facilities.
But, the travel time for 375 kms which is nearly 14 hrs is the negative point. The main problem is that the immigration checking on both sides takes five hours! I have the following suggestion to make this venture successful and profitable: Immigration formalities should be done at the entry and exit stations.
Since security guards are there in each coach, lock the compartments. Bona fide passengers need not get down since toilet, pantry facilities are available.
Possibility of increasing speed to reduce travel time should be considered.
The checking staff, security personnel at the two border points can be done away with.
There is scope for further improvement if the basics are implemented.
