Harinsinga High School defeated Islamia High School by 130 runs in the Standard Chartered Young Tigers National School Cricket competition at the Gaibandha Stadium yesterday.
Batting first, Harinsinga boys made 192-9 in 36.4 overs and later bowled out Islamia for 62 in 22.2 overs. Rubel top scored for the winners with 49 runs.
WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
Bangladesh Ansar advanced to the semifinals of the Citycell National Women's Football Championship with an emphatic 4-0 win over Narayanganj at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Nubai Ching Marma and Suinu Pru Marma each scored a brace in Ansars' second successive win in the finals after an 11-0 crushing of Rajshahi in the group opener.
Suinu Pru Marma was adjudged player of the match.
Satkhira registered their first win also on the same day to keep their hopes alive for a semifinal berth, beating Rajshahi 2-0 at the same venue.
Salma Sultana and player of the match Jannatul Ferdous scored one goal each for the winners.
DIV III FOOTBALL
Rainbow SC edged Shantinagar Club by a solitary goal in the Citycell 3rd Division Football League at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur. Tushar Ahmed Ronny scored the all-important goal for the winners in the 20th minute.
In the day's other match, PWD split points with Government Printing Press in a goalless draw.
INT'L TENNIS
Thailand's Kumkhum beat compatriot Upapong 6-4, 6-1 in the final to lift the girls' singles title at the Ramna Tennis Complex.
Kumkhum also bagged the girls' doubles title pairing with Netherlands' Demi Schuurs. They beat Taipean Hua-Chen Lee and Thailand's Upapong 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 in the final.
The boys' singles trophy went to Wang of China, who got walkover from Great Britain's Mathew Thomson.
Thomson and his brother David also gave walkover to Bai Dong Du of China and Yen-Hsiang Lo of Taipei in the boys' doubles final.
Finance Minister Abul Mal Muhit distributed trophies on the concluding day as chief guest.
