Dhaka University Begum Rokeya Hall held their annual sports competition at the hall playground yesterday. Supriya Rani Das of Bangla Department became champion and Charukola's Neelima Sarkar finished as runner up.
DU Vice Chancellor Arefin Siddiq was present during the occasion as the chief guest.
SCHOOL CRICKET
Mohimaganj High School defeated Police Line School by eight wickets in the Standard Chartered Young Tigers National School Cricket Competition at the Gaibandha Stadium.
Batting first, Police Lines School were all out for 152 in 32 overs. In reply, Mohimaganj High School successfully chased their winning target for the loss of two wickets in 19 overs.
SHAHEED SMRITY HOCKEY
Usha KC earned their second consecutive victory in the six-team Need for Speed Shaheed Smriti Hockey Tournament beating Dilkusha SC 2-0 at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium. Rimon Kumar put the old Dhaka outfit ahead in the 19th minute with a field goal while substitute forward Krishna Kumar doubled the margin in the 65th minute from a penalty corner.
The day's other clash between Services teams Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force ended in 1-1 draw. Navy went into the lead in the 33rd minute through Mamun Hossain while Dinsey Ali scored the equaliser for Air Force on the hour.
INT'L TENNIS
Mathew Thomson of Great Britain will meet Wang of China in the boys' singles final of the Dhaka Bank 23rd International Junior Tennis Championship at the Ramna National Tennis Complex today.
Thomson beat Nakireddi of India 6-2, 6-2 while Wang beat India's Naveen 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinals.
In the girls' singles semis, Thailand's KumKhum beat Hong of Korea 6-4, 6-1 and Upapong beat Netherlands's Schuurs 6-4, 6-0. The two girls finalists then defeated Taipean Pei-Chi and Fang-Chi in the girls' doubles semifinal.
