Indian FM's visit

Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee paid a brief visit to Dhaka recently and signed some agreements and called on the Prime Minister. These were expected.
The unexpected was his skipping of the opposition leader, Begum Khaleda Zia. It is yet to be known what exactly prompted Mr. Mukherjee to meet the army chief and not the leader of the opposition. But, surely one can see some ambivalence in it.
Democracy is back triumphantly again in Bangladesh, the world has seen it and so has India. Democracy has served India well since its independence, it will serve Bangladesh in the same manner, given the opportunity.
