'Killers now threaten slain Asgar's family'
Family members of slain pay phone trader Ali Asgar yesterday demanded arrest of all the killers and exemplary punishment to them.
They also termed false the statements of arrested Zahir, the main accused, during his interrogation in the police remand. The statements were published in different dailies in the last few days.
Asgar was killed and his body was cut into 14 pieces on January 28 at the house of Zahir at Lalbagh, said Asgar's wife Nurunnahar Akter Eva, who is seven months pregnant, at a press conference at the National Press Club.
Eva also demanded that the case be transferred to Speedy Trial Tribunal and sought intervention of the prime minister and the home minister in this regard.
She said the accomplices of the killers have now been threatening to kill the family members if the murder case is not withdrawn.
She also demanded the arrest of Zahir's accomplices Amir Hossain, Nazrul, Mohsin, Rubel and Johnny.
Eva said Zahir has been trying to mislead the law enforcers by giving false information only to divert the case toward a direction in favour of the killers.
Zahir and his three brothers are listed criminals in Lalbagh area and there are several cases against them, she said.
She said Zahir and his men killed Asgar as he refused to jointly run a cable television business in the area.
Eva's brother-in-law Nazim Uddin Badsha, mother-in-law Masuma Begum and her uncle Mohammad Ali were also present at the press conference.
