AL men eye Saidpur bus counters
Tension mounted among the transport workers at Saidpur yesterday as the pro-Awami League (AL) transport workers threatened to occupy Dhaka-bound coach counters run by pro-BNP transport men.
Earlier the pro-AL transport workers forcibly occupied the central bus terminal and the main office of the transport workers union at Saidpur after evicting the members of pro-BNP transport workers union.
The general secretary of pro-BNP transport workers' union, Sirazul Islam Mojnu yesterday said the pro-AL transport workers are showing provocative behaviour and threatening to occupy the local Dhaka-bound coach counters including that of Hanif Poribahan, Shyamoly Poribahan and others run by his supporters.
After taking possession of the central bus terminal and district transport workers union office at Saidpur, pro-AL transport workers formed a convening committee with their own men.
Altaf Hossain and Efaz Uddin Sarkar, the convenor and the joint convenor of the newly formed committee, said, “The tenure of the previous committee expired two years ago. The new committee has been formed in an extended meeting of the leaders of transport workers of the district.”
