Expats join campaign in Moulvibazar
A large number of expatriate people, living in the UK, the USA and Canada have come to their homes in Moulvibazar to participate in the election campaign of their favourite candidates.
They are not only taking part in the campaign physically, but also donating money to election funds of different candidates.
It is expected that more expatriate persons will come to their village home soon to support their candidates.
Former councillor of London Tower Hamlets and Organising Secretary of the UK unit of Awami League Md Abdur Rahim Shahid came to Moulvibazar two months ago to work in favour of AL nominee for Moulvibazar-3 (Sadar and Rajnagar) Syed Mohsin Ali.
Rahim told this correspondent that 30 to 40 expatriates who were the student leaders of Moulvibazar in the past have also come to Moulvibazar to work for Mohsin.
An expatriate preferring anonymity said he has come to the country to work for former finance minister and BNP nominee M Saifur Rahman. “Saifur is an elderly politician who did many things for the development of Moulvibazar,” he added.
Md Fayzul Karim Mayun, general secretary of Moulvibazar district BNP and mayor of Moulvibazar municipality, said many expatriates have come home to work for Saifur.
A few hundred expatriates have also come to Kulaura upazila under Moulvibazar-2 constituency to work for independent candidate MM Shahin.
Dewan Shamim Afzal, an independent candidate in Moulvibazar-3 seat, said his relatives have also come from abroad to work for him.
Some expatriates told this correspondent that they have come to the country to back their candidates both physically and financially.
They claimed that they have influence over the voters in their localities and the candidates get benefit from their local influences.
