AL accuses 4-party of flouting rules
Awami League (AL) yesterday said it would lodge complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against the BNP-led four-party alliance today for violating the electoral code of conduct.
HT Imam, co-chairman of the party's election conducting committee, at a press briefing at the AL media centre in the capital's Dhanmondi, also alleged that a quarter with vested interest has been trying to foil the December 29 parliamentary election to destabilise the country.
The four-party alliance candidates whom the AL accused of violating electoral code of conduct include BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami and its Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ) Chairman Fazlul Haque Amini.
Imam said Khaleda Zia addressed street rallies during her visit to Sylhet on December 12 blocking roads, which is a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct.
Referring to Nizami's comment at Al Falah auditorium at Moghbazar on Tuesday that Sheikh Hasina has been using religion for political purposes, Imam said, "It is a blatant lie and clear violation of the electoral code of conduct."
He alleged that the Jamaat secretary general at a rally in Faridpur pointing a finger at the AL said a conspiracy is being hatched to 'turn the country into Afghanistan.'
Amini at another meeting said if any force other than an Islamic one assumes power they will call non-stop hartal until the government is toppled.
Imam said party chief Hasina had directed the party leaders and activists not to violate the electoral code of conduct.
Mahbubul Haque Shakil, deputy press secretary to Sheikh Hasina, was also present.
