Bombings kill 17 in Iraq
At least 15 people died and 147 were hurt, including many schoolchildren, by two suicide vehicle bombs in the former rebel bastion of Fallujah yesterday, an interior ministry official said.
Two US soldiers were killed and nine Iraqis wounded when a suicide car bomb exploded in the northern city of Mosul on Thursday, the US military said.
The toll was based on preliminary reports and could change, a statement said.
Earlier, a defence ministry official said at least 10 people, including women, were killed in the bombings, which he said targeted Iraqi police posts.
The children were hurt when a school near one of the posts collapsed following the explosion, the interior ministry official said.
Policemen were among the wounded in the near simultaneous blasts, which damaged police posts in western and eastern Fallujah, the defence ministry official said.
An AFP correspondent said several bodies were left splayed out on the ground. A curfew was imposed in the two districts immediately after the blasts.
