Three killed in road accidents
Three people were killed in separate road accidents in Gaibandha, Mymensingh and in the city yesterday.
Our staff correspondent reports: A female employee of an insurance company was killed in a road accident over Khilgaon Flyover in the city yesterday.
The dead was identified as Jhorna Akter, 35, a field worker of Tongi branch of Sondhani Life Insurance and wife of Middle East expatriate Hemayet Uddin of Tongi.
Sources said the accident occurred when she fell down from a running motorbike due to jerking over the flyover yesterday afternoon. Motorbike drive Omar Faruq, 32, her colleague, said he could not understand that she is falling down.
Bipul Kumar Das, a teacher of Oxford Ideal School, who witnessed the accident, told The Daily Star, "The speeding bike from Malibagh direction climbing up the flyover and at one stage the woman fell down from the bike.”
Police said the accident might be occurred due to construction fault.
Our Gaibandha correspondent adds: One person was killed and three others injuries in a road accident on Ghoraghat-Gobindaganj road at Bagda Bazar in Gaibandha yesterday.
The victim was identified as Abdul Khalek, 65.
Locals said the accident occurred when a speeding bus knocked a rickshaw leaving four people injured.
Khalek succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
Our Correspondent from Mymensingh adds: An elderly man was killed in an accident at Minto College level crossing in Mymensingh yesterday.
The victim was identified as Onimesh Bhattacharya, 60.
Police sources said the accident occurred at around 10:00am when he was crossing railway, a train crushed him under its wheels.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body
Police said Onimesh was a retired employee of a bank and physically weak.
