Cut-off tree bases get sand cover
The authorities concerned have instructed workers of the Agargaon-Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue link road to cover the bases of the cut-off trees with sand to hide their controversial activity.
After The Daily Star ran a report headlined "More than 100 trees cut down, more may go" yesterday, workers were seen putting sand on the bases of cut-off trees.
Roots of a number cut-off trees were dug out and the holes were filled with sand yesterday.
Yesterday's report stated that the authorities felled more than 100 trees, some of them 10 years old, even though it was not required according to the original design of the road.
One of the workers said their sub-contractor came rushing yesterday morning and gave instructions so that the bases are not visible. The workers started their work around 9:00am and finished before noon.
The authorities sold the trees but the immature deodar trees were seen still standing there yesterday even though those trees were just next to the ones chopped down.
