Soldier dead, 12 wounded in Pak blast
A roadside bomb hit a Pakistani security forces convoy in a northwestern region yesterday, killing a soldier and wounding 12 others, the military said.
The convoy was travelling between the towns of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan when it came under attack, chief military spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad told AFP.
"Militants planted an improvised explosive device on the roadside which exploded when the security forces were passing through," Arshad said, adding that two of the injured soldiers were in serious condition.
Officials said security forces cordoned off the site of the blast and have launched an investigation.
Tank borders on the troubled tribal region of Waziristan, where Pakistan forces are battling al-Qaeda and Taliban linked militants.
The Pakistani military has been hit with a spate of attacks, including suicide bombings, since July when security forces killed around 100 people including militants in a raid at a radical mosque in the capital Islamabad.
