Depositors ransack Jubok office in city
A group of deposit holders yesterday ransacked the office of Jubo Karmosangsthan Society (Jubok), a non-government organisation in the city, demanding return of their money.
Police said a group of 12 to 15 people, who deposited their money ranging from Tk 2 lakh to 12 lakh to Jubok, ransacked its office at Nayapaltan at around 11.30am when they failed to get back their money.
The agitated deposit holders also harassed three employees and broke the office furniture.
They also tried to pick up the employees but failed due to police presence.
However, no cases were filed in this connection as of filing this report in the evening.
Two years' back, Bangladesh Bank asked the organisation to stop collecting deposits from people for the sake of public interests.
Since then, clashes between the deposit holders and Jubok authorities have been continuing at different places in the country.
