The film "Ironeaters" (Bangla title Lohakhor), directed by Berlin-based Bangladesh filmmaker Shaheen Dill-Riaz has won two more first prizes at "Achtung Berlin - New Berlin Film Award Festival 2008" and "Hachenburger Filmfest 2008", says a press release. The values of the prizes are respectively 9000 Euros for post-production facilities for the next film and 1000 Euros of cash money. With these, the film has won first prizes six times at different international competitions of documentary films.
"Ironeaters" zooms in on the living and working conditions of the workers at the ship-breaking yards in Shitakunda, Chittagong. The film is written and directed by Shaheen Dill-Riaz. Dill-Riaz is also the cinematographer of the film. The talented filmmaker is an active member of Bangladesh Documentary council.
The film was released on June 12, under the distribution of Aries Images, in seven German cities. After six weeks of successful screening at the theatres, the film is now travelling to other cities in Europe. Probably the most significant screening of the film will be held today (September 16) at 14:00 hours for the members of the European Parliament in Brussels. Dill-Riaz will attend the screening. The EU is about to recommend some solutions for sustainable ship recycling to different countries. For a better understanding of this issue the film has been invited to the EU Parliament. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. The event is co-hosted by Robert Evans MEP and the NGO Platform.
