Energy shares spur DSE

Dhaka stocks ended higher yesterday, led by fuel, power and investment shares.
The benchmark of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSE General Index, rose 14.86 points, or 0.52 percent, to 2859.52 points, while the DSE All Share Price Index increased 11.01 points, or 0.45 percent, to 2421.53 points.
Turnover also continued its upward trend for a fourth day, led by Titas Gas shares. Total turnover reached Tk 387.49 crore, up from the previous day's Tk 376.36 crore.
In the opening 30 minutes, the market gained around 13 points. The market slipped for the next 15 minutes. It began to rise once again, reaching a high of 2874 points for the day in the next 60 minutes.
The DSE became relatively stable and dropped just a few points in the following 60 minutes. The bourse found itself on the slippery path and continued the trend until the end.
Most securities traded yesterday on the premier bourse. Of the total 228 issues traded, 126 gained, 95 declined and seven remained unchanged.
Bank shares ended mixed, while shares of most non-banking financial institutions and insurance companies declined.
Mutual funds passed a good day. Pharmaceuticals, cement and tannery shares ended mixed.
A total of 3,01,93,371 shares changed hands on the DSE. Total market capitalisation rose to Tk 99,903.12 crore from the previous day's Tk 99,545.43 crore.
Titas Gas topped the turnover table with 9,16,100 shares worth Tk 45.16 crore.
The day's other turnover leaders were Beximco, ICB 2nd NRB, Grameen 1 Scheme 2, ACI, AIMS 1st Mutual Fund, Beximco Pharma, Lanka Bangla Finance, Grameen One and S Alam Cold Rolled Steels.
Chittagong stocks finished slightly higher. The CSE Selective Categories Index gained 7.93 points, or 0.13 percent, to 5724.66 points, while the CSE All Share Price Index rose 8.4 points, or 0.09 percent, to 8749.18 points.
A total of 54,67,102 shares worth Tk 48.79 crore changed hands on the port city bourse. Of the 142 traded issues, 81 gained, 54 declined and seven remained unchanged.
