Rokeya Network to share ideas, experience
Women and Gender Studies department at Dhaka University is going to form a common platform titled 'Rokeya Network' with an aim to share ideas, knowledge and experience among the researchers, academicians and grassroots level workers who work in the gender-related fields.
The network will begin its journey on March 8 next year on the eve of International Women's Day.
The main objective of the network is to build up a firm bridge among academicians, researchers and grassroots level activists.
To make the platform effective, the department yesterday organised a view exchange meeting at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Babhan.
A number of DU teachers, academicians, researchers and development workers participated in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, DU Vice Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz said there is no alternative to establishing gender equity in all phases in the society to facilitate the country's overall development.
Hailing the endeavour, the speakers shared their experiences, views and ideas and provide suggestions to facilitate the 'network' effectively.
Teachers of the department assured the participants that they would pay utmost attention to their suggestions to make the platform a successful one.
On September this year, the network will offer its membership. A steering committee would be formed on April 2009 to run the activity of the network properly.
Dean of Arts Faculty Prof Sadrul Amin, Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof Harun-or-Rashid, Chairman of the department Prof Ayesha Banu and Prof Mahmuda Islam also spoke.
