<i>ACC okays charge sheet against Harris</i>
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday approved a charge sheet against Harris Chowdhury, political secretary to former premier Khaleda Zia, and ten others including his family members for amassing wealth worth over Tk 85.88 crore illegally.
The ACC yesterday also approved filing of a case against former managing director of Teletalk Obaidulla and his wife Rowshan Jahan for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information from the commission.
The names of Harris' wife Hosne Ara Chowdhury, son Naim Shafi Chowdhury, daughter Samira Tanjil, brother Selim Chowdhury, sister-in-law Jahanara Chowdhury, Harris' private secretary Ziaul Islam, Akhlasur Nahar, Masum Ahmed, and Mosharraf Hossain Thakur will be included in the charge sheet.
ACC Deputy Director Jibon Krishna Roy filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on October 7 last year.
An anti-graft tribunal on May 21 last year sentenced Harris to three years' imprisonment for not submitting wealth statement to the commission.
Harris was on the first list of 50 graft suspects published by the ACC on February 18.
Harris, also joint secretary general of BNP, has been on the run since the present caretaker government came to power on January 12. He did not even employ a lawyer to defend him in court.
CASE AGAINST OBAIDULLAH
The commission approved filing of a case against Obaidullah and his wife Rowshan Jahan for amassing wealth worth over Tk 52.90 lakh illegally and concealing information about wealth worth Tk 2.72 lakh in the statement submitted to the commission.
