Automated Chittagong Custom House kicks off tomorrow

The recently installed automated system of Chittagong Custom House will go into operation from tomorrow.
The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), in association with the joint forces, implemented the project.
It is expected that the automation will significantly increase revenue earnings of the Chittagong Custom House.
Automated Custom House is now a matter of necessity, rather than a matter of choice, since from 1st July 2009 the European Union (EU) will not issue any manual document.
The new system will greatly streamline and shorten the procedures of the Customs House. The international prices of different export/import items will be updated, eliminating the possibility of under valuation. The automated system will have website with profiles of the stakeholders.
Traders suffer losses, as they are unable to comply with the deadline of the foreign buyers due to loopholes and the whims of the customs authority, resulting in increased cost of doing business that ultimately affects millions of consumers.
The Joint Forces, members of the Board of Directors and President In-charge of the CCCI, M.A. Latif, chief coordinator of the Automation System, and CCCI Director Mohammed Amirul Haque expressed their hope that the modern system will improve the situation.
