Govt wants to create a group thru' farcical local body polls

Says Delwar

BNP leader Khandker Delwar Hossain yesterday termed the caretaker government 'unconstitutional' and said it has planned to create a group through local bodies elections that would allow them to cling to power.
“We cannot be a part to legalise the unconstitutional government by participating in the stage managed elections,” he said after a meeting of the BNP-led 4-party alliance.
The 4-party viewed that the government wants to make the country a vassal state by installing elements subservient to an 'alien power' through elections under its blueprint.
“We shall not allow it to happen,” asserted Delwar while talking to newsmen.
The meeting held at the residence of Delwar in a resolution demanded restoration of general holidays on May 30, the day President Ziaur Rahman was assassinated, and the Revolution and National Solidarity Day on November 7.
In another resolution the meeting strongly criticized the government for not releasing BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Rahman, also senior joint secretary general of BNP undergoing trial on corruption charges.
