Stolen child rescued from Patuakhali
Patuakhali police rescued the 10-month-old baby girl Jannatul Naim Tinni from Taltola slum in Patuakhali town in the early hours of yesterday after a domestic help stolen her from their Hatirpool residence in the city on Tuesday.
Sadar police in cooperation with locals rescued Tinni at around 2:00am from the slum on College Road in the town and arrested the domestic help Laila Akhter Mala, 13.
Mala made off with the baby on Tuesday afternoon from a stationary shop where Tinni's mother Mukta Begum was busy with shopping keeping her daughter to Mala.
Mukta allowed Mala to work as a domestic help in her house just a day before the incident despite her husband asked her not to employ the unknown girl.
Mala appealed Mukta for an employment as a domestic help saying she went missing after she came to the city with her aunt from Barisal a few days back.
Police said they rescued the baby after a noted sports organiser Abul Hawlader informed the Sadar police that Mala returned to her house with a baby girl. Mala's father Altaf Hawlader first informed the matter to Abul Hawlader.
Police said they are investigating whether Mala has link to any child smuggling gang.
