The executive committee of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has decided to include wrestling and golf as the two new disciplines of Bangladesh's choice as hosts of the 2009 SA Games.
The meeting was held at the Kurmitola Golf Club with its president and army chief General Moeen U Ahmed as chair.
BOA secretary general Kutubuddin Ahmed requested the president to include few more disciplines -- judo, basketball, volleyball and badminton -- in the next SA Games and General Moeen, in response, gave direction to present a recommendation on the matter in the next meeting.
The meeting also finalized the 13-member team that will participate in the Beijing Olympics games next month. The Bangladesh contingent includes six players, three coaches/managers, two members for the youth camp, one general team manager and one Chef de Mission.
Besides, Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for Youth and Sports, BOA president and secretary general go to Beijing as invited guests of Olympic Games Organising Committee.
BOA president and also chairman of the National Sports Council (NSC) General Moeen U Ahmed assured again a fair and politics-free election in the sports federations by October.
Terming the recently concluded BFF election as fair and credible, the BOA president hoped that the upcoming election process in different sports federations, now being run by ad-hoc committees, would also be free from an external influence.
He also urged the BOA members to rid the sports arena of politics.
About participation in the Beijing Olympics, Gen Moeen said Bangladesh's participation this time will be in name only, but “we hope to take part in the next Olympics in greater number.”
The meeting also decided to rename the BOA Bhaban Building Committee as the 'BOA Bhaban Project'.
It also accepted the resignation of BOA deputy secretary general Kazi Mohiuddin Bulbul.
About amendments in the BOA statutes, the BOA president directed all concerned to review the written recommendations of the BOA members before these could be approved.
