4 shelters in Khagrachhari for vulnerable people
As part of initiative to save most vulnerable 140 families from hill slides in Khagrachhari, the district administration has opened four shelter centres at different places of Sadar upazila.
The seven-member monitoring team led by Additional District Magistrate Monindra Kishore Majumder have started visiting door to door to motivate vulnerable people to take shelter in safe places including the four centres.
They have also arranged announcement through loudspeakers in the most vulnerable areas to encourage people take safe shelter at Textile Vocational Institute, Shalbon Shishu Kalyan Primary School, Shalbagun Fourth Class Employee's Dormitory and Comilla Tilla Registered Primary School.
Other members of the team are Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rahed Hossen, Sadar Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Kawsar Hossen, Deputy Collector (Revenue) Nazim Uddin, Executive Magistrate Abul Amin, Nur Alam and The Daily Star correspondent Jasim Majumder.
The four shelters have been opened as the administration is fully ready to check hill slides calamities, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahdat Hossen said.
He sought cooperation from the civil society leaders to make the initiative successful.
