Hafiz for end to internal dispute of BNP
The dissident faction of BNP yesterday urged Khandaker Delwar Hossain, the party's chairperson-endorsed secretary general, to call a meeting of the standing committee for resolving internal disputes.
Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, acting secretary general and leader of the dissident faction, made the call at a meeting at his residence where about 30 former lawmakers and party leaders were present.
Meeting sources quoted the speakers at the meeting as saying that to strengthen the party in the grassroots level, the Delwar-led leadership should not have decided against participating in the local body polls and for the same reasons, the party should take part in the upazila elections.
The BNP leaders at the meeting also expressed their resentment over the attitude of the Delwar-led faction towards the reunification of the party.
Prof Rezaul Karim, Mosharraf Hossain Mangu, Maj Gen (retd) ZA Khan, Zahiruddin Swapan, Nazir Hossain, Masud Arun, Ziaul Haque Mollah, Mofiqul Hasan Tripti attended the meeting among others.
Meeting sources said, the speakers accused Delwar for causing obstruction in the reunification process despite the party chairperson's instructions for unifying the party.
Meanwhile, Delwar in a meeting with Tejgaon thana unit leaders of the party at his Nam flat yesterday urged all to remain united and be prepared to implement programmes of the party.
Terming 1/11 a 'conspiracy', he said the conspiracy was implemented only to keep BNP from assuming power.
Regarding the much talked transit treaty with India, he said the present government has no right to make such an agreement.
Among others, Nazrul Islam Khan, Rizvi Ahmed, Nurul Kabir Shaheen and Shamsuzzaman Dudu were present.
