Proceedings against ex-MP Lobi stayed
The High Court (HC) yesterday stayed for four months proceedings of a relief scam case against former BNP lawmaker and ex-president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Ali Asghar Lobi.
After hearing a petition filed by Loby, the HC bench comprising Justice Sharif Uddin Chaklader and Justice Md Emdadul Haque Azad also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why the proceedings of the case against the petitioner should not be quashed.
Police of Botiaghata thana in Khulna filed a case on July 1, 2007, against Lobi on charge of misappropriating tins allocated for distribution as relief items.
Later, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) took up the case.
Lobi recently filed a petition with the HC to quash the case proceedings. Hearing of the petition was held yesterday.
