7 killed in road accidents
At least seven people were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Dinajpur, Jhenidah, Mymensingh and in the city in last two days.
Our staff correspondent adds: Two motorcyclists were killed in an accident at Kakrail in the city early yesterday.
They were identified as Anwar Hossain Kalu, 35, garment wastage trader, and his friend Abdul Malek alias Malu, 33, of Basabo under Sabujbagh Police Station.
Police said the accident occurred when a goods-laden truck hit their motorbike at Kakrail crossing while they were returning home after visiting Kalu's ailing wife Tania Begum at Dhanmondi Central Hospital.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared them dead. The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: Two people were killed and one was injured in a road accident at Mobarak Ganj rail crossing under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah yesterday.
The victims were identified as Fulser Ali, 45, and Jahurul Islam, 25, of Gabardanga village.
Police and locals said the accident occurred when a Kotchandpur-bound bus hit a Nasimon (human hauler) from behind leaving them injured. They succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.
The bodies were sent to Jhenidah hospital for autopsy.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds: An old woman was killed in a road accident at Digarkanda area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sadar upazila yesterday.
The victim was identified as Maleka Khatun, 80, wife of late Abdul Jalil of Baira Sabagia area of the upazila.
Police and locals said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus crushed Maleka under its wheels while she was crossing the road at around 1.30pm.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Our Sirajganj correspondent adds: A bicycle rider was killed and seven others were injured in two separate road accidents in Sirajganj yesterday.
The dead was identified as Saddam Hossain, 18, son of Abdul Aziz of Bhargram village.
Police and witnesses said that the first accident occurred at around 9.30am when a Rajshahi-bound passenger bus hit his bicycle from behind on the Dhaka-Bonpara highway at Mohisluti area in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj.
On the other hand, at least seven day labourers were injured when two trucks colluded head at Pachlia bazaar in the district at around 9.45am.
On information, police rushed to the spots and recovered the body and rescued the injured. The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
UNB from Dinajpur adds: A school teacher was killed as a three-wheeler (tempo) hit her rickshaw at Birganj upazila town on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Jesmin Ara, a teacher of Talithakur High School of the upazila.
Sources said the speeding tempo hit her rickshaw when she was going to her school in the morning, leaving her seriously injured.
She succumbed to her injuries on way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.'
