Khagrachhari DC asks SP to take quick action
Khagrachhari Deputy Commi-ssioner Mohammad Shadat Hossen yesterday asked Superintendent of Police (SP) Qaiumuzzaman Khan to take quick action about Mokor Kanti Chakma, who has been in Khagrachhari district jail since June 15, 2006 when police arrested him instead Kala Dhon Chakma, a life term awardee in a case.
Earlier on June15, The Daily Star ran a report on Mokor's pligt.
After examining four investigation reports by police and administration, it became clear that Mokor Kanti Chakma was wrongly arrested by police on June 14, 2006 instead of actual accused Kala Dhon Chakma as names of fathers of the two persons were similar, the deputy commissioner said in a letter to the SP yesterday.
The issue should be resolved as early as possible as Mokor Kanti Chakma has been in jail for over two years, he said.
The incident violated human rights and legal justice and tarnished the prestige of police and administration as well, he added.
Additional Superintendent of Police Osman Gani admitted about the letter from Deputy Commi-ssioner. Besides this he has also got another letter from his SP, which letter with daily star news cutting from police headquarter to investigate the matters again, he said.
He has started investigation and after completing it he will submit it to the higher authorities through the SP, he said.
