IO says outlaw Shahadat gave vital info on murder plan
Outlaw Shahadat Hossain of Janajuddha faction of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) has given very important information about the murder of veteran Awami League leader advocate Manjurul Imam of Khulna.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Mahabubur Rahman allowed IO of the case, Inspector Chittya Rangan Pal of Detective Branch of KMP, to interrogate outlaw Shahadat at the jail gate.
He was placed on a three-day remand on Wednesday.
Extremist Shahadat is a suspect in Khulna city AL president advocate Manjurul Imam murder case.
The IO declined to give details for the sake of investigation.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Shadatat in October, 2003 from Agargoan area in the capital and recovered arms, ammunition and PBCP leaflets from his possession.
Two separate cases were filed against him in this connection with the concerned police station.
Shahadat who hails from Khulna city was later shown arrested in Manjurul Imam murder case.
He was interrogated twice by the previous IO of the case, Inspector Akram Hossain of DB.
Talking tom this correspondent yesterday, the present IO said he would be able to make a breakthrough in investigation into the murder as Shahadat gave some important information about the murder plan.
Manijurul Imam was killed in a bomb attack on August 25, 2003 near his residence at Shamsur Rahman Road under Khulna Sadar thana.
His son Abdullah Harun Rumi during deposition in the court of Khulna speedy trial tribunal on February 25 named four local leaders of Awami League as plotters of the murder of his father.
Rumi also named eight other Khulna AL leaders who were aware of the murder plan.
The sensational murder created division in Khulna Awami League and triggered protests.
