Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha celebrates 20th anniversary
Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha (BRSSS) arranged a musical programme at the Shawkat Osman Auditorium, Central Public Library on May 27 to mark its 20th anniversary. Members of the organisation celebrated the day with renditions of Tagore songs.
Vice President of BRSSS, Tagore singer Naima Ali said, "Our initial objective was to create a platform for young and talented Tagore artistes." She was one of the speakers at the discussion. Among others Amina Ahmed, vice-president of the organisation; Nahar Jamil; founding members Ikhtiar Omar, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury and Sajed Akbar also spoke at the programme.
General Secretary of BRSSS, Tapan Mahmud gave the welcome speech while Tagore exponent and President of BRSSS, Kalim Sharafi chaired the programme. Kalim Sharafi inaugurated the programme with lighting candles.
The musical programme started with a rendition of Aami kaan petey roi by expatriate artiste Ikhtiar Omar. Rokaiya Hasina, Pramod Dutt, Mansura Begum and Nahar Jamil rendered Tomaye amaye milon hobey boley, Bhalobeshey jodi shukh nahi, Jethaye tomar lutitechhey and Hridoyer ekul okul respectively.
Sajed Akbar, Melbourne-based artiste Chanchal Khan, Makhon Hawladar, Nargis Chowdhury, Selina Huda, Lily Islam, Aditi Mohsin and Amina Ahmed also sang at the programme.
Members of the invited Rabindra sangeet based cultural organisations including Shurer Dhara, Rabiraag, Geetanjali, Baitalik, Sangeet Bhaban and Biswa Beena performed group songs.
To generate wider interest in Rabindra Sangeet as well as to create a bigger platform for young Tagore artistes, BRSSS started its journey on May 27, 1988.
