Ex-BNP MP Anny sued for extortion
Former BNP lawmaker Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anny was sued on Monday night for extorting money from a dredging firm.
Shamsul Haque, senior manager of Abdul Monem Limited, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.
According to the complainant, Anny obstructed the company from contesting in bids for four projects on dredging of a river in 2005 and demanded Tk 50 lakh in exchange for allowing it to submit tenders for the bids.
Shamsul said they gave Tk 25 lakh to Anny through a pay order numbering 0057795 of Sonargaon Road branch of Jamuna Bank Limited on May 7 in 2005.
The former lawmaker deposited the pay order to his savings account No 21015286 with Dhanmondi Branch of Prime Bank Limited, the plaintiff added.
Anny, also former president of BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, went into hiding soon after the present government came to power.
