Arrest warrant against 11 for murders in '71
A Chapainawabganj court yesterday issued arrest warrants against 11 persons for killing and torturing several people during the Liberation War.
The accused are Fazlur Rahman, 60, Kubed Ali,70, of Parchouka village, Mortuza, 65, of Raninagar, Zafar Ali, 70, of Chowdhuritola, Yasin Ali, 61, Mohsen Ali, 65, Hobu, 58, Zillur Rahman, 59, of Binodpur, Dwin Mohammad, 62, of Jagannathpur, Elias, 56, of Monakosha and Dween Mohammad, 70, of Biswanathpur.
Judicial Magistrate Mostafa Kamal accepted the probe report submitted by investigation officer (IO) of the case Lenin Alamgir and issued arrest warrants against the 11 accused.
Earlier, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ratneshawar Bhattacharya recorded the complainant's statement and directed Lenin Alamgir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station, to investigate the case and submit probe report. The IO submitted the probe report on May 7, 2008 accusing 11 people.
He dropped the name of Ainal Haque, 60 of Raninagar from the list of accused as charges brought against him were not proved.
Sources said Bodiur Rahman of Parchouka village filed the case under section 302 and 34 of Bangladesh Penal Code with the Chapainawabganj Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court on February 26, 2008.
The complainant said a group of Razakars comprising some local people held 12 people at Monakasha village in Shibganj upazila on October 7, 1971.
The Razakars tortured them to death near Monakasha Humayun Reza High School at about 5:00pm.
The complainant's father Moslem and uncle Islam were among the victims.
The IO said they would arrest the accused as soon as possible.
