Bangladesh Rifles confirmed their absolute supremacy in Premier Volleyball League as they clinched their 11th consecutive title yesterday.
They defeated Bangladesh Police in the final in 3-1 sets (20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-16) at the Volleyball Stadium.
Rifles have been picking up the title ever since 1995-96 when the league began.
Bangladesh Police became runners-up while Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) finished third.
Uttara Sporting Club has been relegated to the First Division League for not taking part in the Premier League.
Rajesh of Water Development Board received the award of the most promising player of the meet.
DIV II CRICKET
Udity Club and Kalabagan Cricket Academy moved a step closer to safety after winning their respective matches in the Second Division Relegation League yesterday.
Farhad smashed 99 off just 70 balls to power Udity to their winning target of 176 runs in only 23.5 overs in a 25-overs-a-side match against Chandpur Cricket Academy at the Dhaka University ground. Chandpur's score of 175 was built around Fazlul's 40, earlier in the piece.
At the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, the Kalabagan academy thwarted a six-wicket haul from Rayer Bazar's Asif to score 197 in 43.4 overs. Later, Rayer Bazar were bowled out for 176 in 44.5 overs with Miraz contributing 36.
The losses would put Chandpur and Rayer Bazar in limbo as they must win all their remaining matches to stay afloat in the league.
DIV II VOLLEYBALL
Nabajagarani Sangha emerged champions in the Second Division Volleyball League at the Volleyball Stadium.
Prisons Directorate became runners-up and Nagar Samaj Kalyan Sangha finished third.
Amalesh of Nagar Samaj Kalyan Sangha earned the award of most promising player in the league.
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) secretary general Kutubuddin Ahmed distributed prizes among the teams as chief guest.
Bangladesh Volleyball Federation vice president Morshed A Chowdhury, general secretary Anisur Rahman and league committee secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam were, among others, present.
