Bangali Chhatra Parishad, student forum of Parbatya Chattagram Samo Adhikar Andolon (PCSAA), yesterday observed 22nd anniversary of massacre on Bangali settlers in Khagrachhari district.
In a press conference held at PCSAA Khagrachhari district office, the leaders of PCSAA and its student wing demanded punishment of the criminals involved in Baghaichhari incident on April 20.
On April 29 in 1986, Shanti Bahini, the then arms wing of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghaty Samity, massacred Bangali people with bullet and fire and eventually forced over 45 thousand indigenous people to take shelter in neighbouring India, speakers said at the press conference.
As Shanti Bahini men started their carnage on the sleeping Bangali people at Tabalchhari, Taindang Bazar, Jharna Tilla, Bagwan Tilla, Babuchhara, Panchhari, Chhantilla, Ultachhari and Mohalchhari in hill district Khagrachhari, several hundred Bangali people were shot and burnt to death while many more were injured, PCSAA advisor former lawmaker Alim Ullah said.
They condemned the attack on both indigenous and Bangali people at Bagaichhari on April 20 night and demanded the arrest of the real culprits.
Bangali Chhatra Parishad Central Committee President Eakub Ali Chowdhury read out the keynote paper while PCSAA District Adviser Nuruzzaman, District Convener Zahirul Islam and Secretary General Robiul Islam Robi were present.
