Blair’s wife in city
Cherie Blair, wife of former British prime minister Tony Blair, arrived in Dhaka yesterday on a private visit.
She has been invited by a British-Bangladeshi lawyer, Ajmalul Hossain QC. The reasons for her visit could not be known immediately.
Sources however said a number of legal issues will top the agenda during Cherie's visit, which is also likely to include discussions on the prevailing human rights situation.
She will meet Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury today.
Cherie, a lawyer, will also meet lawyers, politicians, human rights activists and civil society members.
She is scheduled to leave Dhaka on April 25.
