Urdu speaking people in Khulna to be voters
Sixty-one thousand Urdu speaking people in Khulna will be included in the voters' list as per a decision of an inter-ministerial meeting held recently in Dhaka.
Of them, 29,000 live in areas under five police stations of Khulna Metropolitan City.
District Election Officer Md Mujibar Rahman yesterday said he received a faxed letter from Chief Election Commissioner's office on September 3 for inclusion of Urdu speaking people in the voters' list.
“I have been directed by the CEC's office to include those Urdu speaking people in voters' list with photographs who have citizenship certificates and were voters in 2001 national election. “Those who could not enroll their names in the voters list made in 2000 will not have any problem this time to become voters if they can show genuine citizenship certificates from ward commissioners”, the district election officer said.
