Security guard Enam sent to jail
Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir was sent to jail yesterday on completion of his eight-day remand in journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman passed the order as the case's investigation officer (IO) did not seek further remand.
The court also fixed February 25 for the hearing on a bail petition filed by the accused.
IO Mohammad Zafar Ullah, a senior assistant superintendent of Rab, in his forwarding report to the court said he extracted important information from the accused which is being verified.
So, the accused needs to be detained in jail until completion of the investigation, he said.
Earlier on February 10, Enam was placed on the remand following his arrest by the Rab from Brahmanbaria.
He was a security guard of the building where the killing of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi took place on February 11 last year.
Police have so far arrested six more suspects in connection with the incident. The arrestees are Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Miah, Masum Mintu, Sayeed, another security guard of the couple's residence Palash Rudra Paul, and the couple's "family friend" Tanvir Rahman.
Of the suspects, the first four are now in jail in connection with the murder of physician Nitai, while Palash and Tanvir are in Rab custody.
