Abductors release 13
Thirteen activists of Partbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) were released by their kidnappers at Naniachar upazila yesterday, two days into their abduction.
Dialogue for negotiation, however, is continuing between PCJSS and United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), the two rival factions over freeing the others, Longudu police said.
According to PCJSS, around 40 UPDF men intercepted an engine boat in Jotetila area of Longudu around 10:30am and abducted at least 70 PCJSS men at gun point.
The PCJSS leaders and activists were returning home from Rangamati town after attending the party's 41st founding anniversary programme.
The abductees include-- Moni Shankar Chakma, secretary of PCJSS, Longudu upazila, Josho Chakma, secretary of Juba Samity and its organising secretary Milon Chakma.
However, police could not provide any details on the identities of the kidnappers or the place they were held.
“A headman (Mouja chief) informed me that the captivators have released 13 PCJSS men but he couldn't provide any further details,†said Md. Rezaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Longudu Police Station.
