224 Jamaat-Shibir men sued
Police filed a case against 224 Jamaat-Shibir men on charge of attacking them and arrested two people in this connection in Borolekha upazila on Friday.
Assistant Sub-inspector Abdul Ahad of Borolekha PS filed the case at night, accusing 33 identified Jamaat-Shibir men and 191 unknown others.
The arrestees include Maulana Shamsul Islam, vice-principal of Hatalia Dakhil Madrasa and Maruf Ahmed, a Jamaat activist of Jyotirbanda village in the upazila.
Witnesses said a clash ensued when the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Chhatra Shibir of Dakkhinbhagh unit brought out a procession in support of their various demands, including the release of their party leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, in the area after juma prayers.
A chase and counter-chase took place as police obstructed them which followed a clash that left six people, including four policemen, injured.
The injured policemen were identified as ASI of Borolekha PS Rajab Ali, constable Ratan Mia and Maruf Ahmed and Rubel Ahmed of reserve police.
Police arrested Shamsul Islam from the spot during the clash while Maruf was later arrested from his house at night.
