Six get life for murder
A court here yesterday sentenced six people to life-term imprisonment in Jamal Uddin Murder Case of 2007.
The convicts are -- Aynal Haque, Abdul, Rabbani, Abdus Sobhan, Md. Habibur Rahman alias Habi and Fazlul Haque of Bororchar Mridhapara village in Sadar upazila of Mymensingh. Of them, Aynal Haque, Abdul and Rabbani are still absconding.
The court also fined Tk. 50 thousand each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
The court also awarded punishment to nine other accused in the case on different terms.
They are Noor Uddin, Annes Ali, Abdul Quadir, Nazrul Islam, Rafiz Uddin, Shafiqul Islam alias Shafiq, Samir Uddin, Akkas Ali alias Ismail and Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan of Bororchar Mridhapara village.
According to the case story, Jamal Uddin went to cultivate land at his Bororchar Mridhapara village in Sadar upazila around 7:30 am on 2 January, 2007.
A gang of rival locals, led by Abdus Sobhan, attacked Jamal with sharp weapons, injuring him critically.
He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 11 am on the same day.
A case was lodged with Kotwali police station by Amirul Islam, son of the victim, accusing 16 people on the following day.
After examining witnesses and evidences, Humayun Kabir, judge of District Special Judge Court, yesterday handed down the punishment.
