Journalist Abdul Matin passes away
Abdul Matin, an Independence Award winning journalist, writer and political activist, died due to old-age complications in a London hospital on Tuesday. He was 88.
He left behind his wife and a daughter, and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Matin was born in Noakhali on April 13 in 1924, says a press release.
He actively participated in movements during 1971 in the United Kingdom to drum up support for the independence of Bangladesh. He was also involved with pro-liberation Bangla dailies published from the UK during the period.
In his journalistic career, he served United Press of India, Daily Azad, Daily Sangbad, United Press of Pakistan and Pakistan Observer, among other media outlets.
Matin wrote many books on Bangabandhu, the Liberation War and other topics. He received the Independence Award in 2009.
